A deepfake is synthetic media — most often video or audio — generated or altered using deep learning techniques, typically generative adversarial networks (GANs), to convincingly mimic real individuals. While deepfakes have creative and legitimate uses, they also pose risks in misinformation, fraud, and identity manipulation.
