Aging
Assembly
The New York State Assembly Aging Committee addresses key issues affecting seniors, such as affordable housing, long-term care, healthcare access, elder abuse prevention, and community-based supports that help older adults live independently and securely. The committee provides legislative and budgetary oversight for the State Office for the Aging and related programs, working to safeguard the quality of life for older New Yorkers.
The Committee has direct responsibility for legislation and policy related to New York’s elderly population. This includes oversight of Elder Law (which governs the State Office for the Aging), Public Health Law (long-term care services), Real Property Tax Law (senior rent and tax exemptions), and Social Services Law (programs such as EISEP, EPIC, and Meals-on-Wheels).
Assembly Member Rebecca A. Seawright serves as Chair, with Assembly Member George Alvarez as Ranking Member.
The committee has 28 members and generally meets at 1:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. The latest membership roster is maintained on the official Assembly website.
