Housing
Assembly
The New York State Assembly Housing Committee focuses on legislation and oversight related to affordable housing, rent regulation, tenant protections, housing development, homelessness prevention, and community revitalization. It works to ensure New Yorkers have access to safe, stable, and affordable housing and addresses issues like housing discrimination, public housing, and landlord-tenant relations.
The Committee has direct responsibility for laws including Housing Law, Public Housing Law, Multiple Dwelling Law, and Rent Regulation statutes, as well as relevant sections of Real Property Law and General Municipal Law. It also oversees aspects of Unconsolidated Laws whenever housing programs or city-specific codes are involved.
Assembly Member Linda B. Rosenthal serves as Chair, with a designated Ranking Member from the minority party. The committee has approximately 28 members and generally meets during the legislative session, often on Tuesday afternoons. The full, current list of members is published on the official Assembly website.
