Labor
Assembly
The New York State Assembly Labor Committee develops and oversees legislation affecting workers’ rights, workplace safety, labor standards, minimum wage, unemployment insurance, workforce development, and collective bargaining. Its primary concern is to promote fair and safe employment conditions for all New Yorkers while supporting job creation and protections for organized labor.
The Committee has direct responsibility for Labor Law (covering wages, hours, safety standards, and worker protections), Workers’ Compensation Law, and sections of Civil Service Law (as it relates to public sector bargaining) and Unemployment Insurance Law. It also addresses General Business Law and Employment Agency Law where labor issues intersect.
Assembly Member Harry B. Bronson serves as Chair, with a designated Ranking Member from the minority party. The Labor Committee consists of approximately 19 members and generally meets during the legislative session; meeting details are posted on the official Assembly website.
