Oversight, Analysis & Investigation
Assembly
The New York State Assembly Oversight, Analysis and Investigation Committee is tasked with ensuring accountability, transparency, and efficiency across all facets of New York State government. This committee reviews the implementation and effectiveness of laws and state-run programs, conducts investigations, analyzes agency performance, and works to uncover waste, abuse, or mismanagement in state operations. Its purpose is to safeguard public resources and improve the delivery of government services.
The Committee has broad legal authority encompassing various statutes, most notably those granting investigative and oversight powers to the legislature, including the Legislative Law and State Finance Law. It collaborates with other standing committees to monitor agency activity and systemic issues across all government sectors.
Assembly Member Jonathan G. Jacobson currently serves as Chair, with membership drawn from both major parties. The committee has about 13 members and meets during the legislative session; official schedules and the latest roster are published on the Assembly website.
