Senate
The Agriculture Committee supports and advances New York’s agricultural sector, reviewing legislation affecting farm viability, food production and safety, farmland protection, agribusiness, and animal welfare. Its aim is to ensure the state’s agricultural economy thrives, supporting farmers, promoting innovation, and sustaining rural communities.
The committee has authority over Agriculture and Markets Law (food safety, farm products, animal disease control), Public Health Law (food safety standards), and Real Property Tax Law (agricultural assessments and taxation).
Chaired by a majority senator, with a ranking minority member. Membership is generally around 19–21. The committee typically meets during legislative session weeks as scheduled by the Senate.
