Senate
The Senate Banks Committee oversees all matters related to banking, financial services, and consumer protection within New York. It reviews and advances legislation on regulation of banks, mortgage lending, fintech, credit unions, and protections against financial fraud and discrimination.
Its legal authority includes Banking Law (regulation of financial institutions), Financial Services Law, General Business Law (consumer protections), Insurance Law (financial product regulation), and Real Property Law (mortgage and foreclosure issues).
Chaired by a majority senator with a ranking member from the minority, the committee typically consists of around 17 senators. Meetings are held during session, with current information posted to the Senate’s website.
