Cities 2
Senate
The Cities 2 Committee is responsible for legislative oversight concerning all other cities in New York State, excluding those covered by Cities 1. Its focus includes municipal governance, infrastructure, financial stability, housing, community development, and regional issues relevant to small and medium-sized cities. The committee works to ensure urban areas outside New York City receive tailored legislative support.
The committee has jurisdiction over General City Law, Second Class Cities Law, and relevant sections of Housing Law, General Municipal Law, and targeted local codes or charters for affected cities.
Cities 2 is chaired by a majority senator, with a ranking minority senator, typically including about 9–12 members. The committee meets during scheduled legislative sessions, with records and rosters maintained on the Senate’s website.
