The Consumer Protection Committee reviews and advances legislation to safeguard New Yorkers from unfair business practices, fraud, deceptive advertising, unsafe products, and privacy violations. Its mandate includes ensuring marketplace fairness, product safety, and data protection.
The committee covers General Business Law (consumer protections), Agriculture and Markets Law (food labeling and safety), sections of Executive Law (Division of Consumer Protection), and other statutes relevant to fraud, identity theft, and product regulation.
Chaired by a majority senator with a minority ranking member, the committee generally includes 9–11 senators and meets during legislative sessions according to the official Senate calendar.
