Senate
The Senate Mental Health Committee develops and reviews policy to improve mental health services, developmental disability supports, access to treatment, prevention initiatives, and community-based care across New York. Its central mission is to promote effective, equitable mental health systems and support individuals and families living with mental illness or disabilities.
Jurisdiction includes Mental Hygiene Law (mental health, developmental and intellectual disabilities), Public Health Law (mental health care access), Social Services Law (supportive programs), and Education Law (school-based mental health).
Senator Samra Brouk is Chair. The committee generally consists of 7–9 members and meets on a regular basis throughout the legislative session; updated rosters and meeting schedules are on the Senate’s website.
