Rules
Senate
The Senate Rules Committee is the most powerful committee in the chamber, setting legislative agendas, referring bills, approving leadership appointments, and addressing procedural motions. Its focus is on the efficient and orderly management of Senate business and the implementation of leadership and majority priorities.
The Rules Committee’s authority is defined in the Senate Rules, granting it jurisdiction over the entire legislative process rather than a specific set of consolidated laws.
Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins serves as Chair, with Senator Robert G. Ortt as Ranking Member. Membership is drawn from senior leadership, and meetings are convened as needed throughout the session.
