Small Business
Assembly
The New York State Assembly Small Business Committee advances policies to support and expand small businesses, improve access to capital, promote entrepreneurship, increase opportunities for minority- and women-owned enterprises, and help small firms navigate economic challenges. Its core focus is on job growth, business resilience, and ensuring a supportive climate for entrepreneurs and family businesses.
The Committee oversees General Business Law (regarding business practices), Economic Development Law (granting incentives and programs for small enterprises), and interaction with Tax Law (small business tax credits). It also has oversight over the state’s economic development agencies and addresses barriers such as permitting, workforce needs, and technology adoption.
Assembly Member Albert A. Stirpe, Jr. serves as Chair, with a Ranking Member from the minority party. The committee currently includes roughly 15 members and meets during the legislative session according to the published calendar.
